Top 5 TV Shows Fall 2017

Top 5 TV Shows Fall 2017

Matt Bauerly August 29, 2017

With the almighty king of TV, "Game of Thrones," now in the rear-view mirror (tear…I know, I’m counting down the days till the final season too), here’s my top 5 TV shows to look forward to this fall 2017. Disclaimer, I’m a dude who likes thrillers as well as I'm the classic cord cutting millennial that streams everything. This list is very much a representative of me and my interests but I still think you all would enjoy binge watching these promising shows!

No. 5 – “Ghosted” on FOX

The series will follow a skeptic (Craig Robinson) and a genius “true believer” (Adam Scott) in the paranormal who are recruited by an organization called The Bureau Underground to investigate a series of “unexplained” activities that are occurring in the Los Angeles area, which are supposedly tied to a mysterious entity that could threaten the existence of the human race. This American supernatural sitcom premieres Sunday, October 1, 2017 on FOX.

I will always have my doubts with network television but I am interested to see what the writer of Portlandia as well as many funny SNL digital stories, Jonathan Krisel, comes up with.

No. 4 – “Alex, Inc.” on ABC

Alex Inc ABC

Why is this on the list? Fair question. This show very well could be a classic network sitcom cancelled mid-season due to poor ratings. I certainly won’t be watching it live. I’ll probably stream the first couple of episodes on Hulu. It’s on this list because I am a big fan of the podcasts from Gimlet Media and this new TV show is based on the founder, Alex Blumberg, starting his podcast company. Zach Braff seems like the perfect guy to take control of this story and make it entertaining for all viewers. We shall see…

What are some podcasts from Gimlet Media that you would recommend? Well, I’m glad you asked…

StartUp, is a podcast about what it’s really like to get a business off the ground. “Alex, Inc” is based off Season 1 of this podcast.

Reply All, a podcast about the internet as well as an exploration of modern life.

I recommend starting with their dynamite episode “Long Distance" that is if you have ever received a phone call from a random 1-800 number and wondered who was on the other end.

Homecoming, a scripted drama podcast with voice actors. Starring Ross from Friends (David Schwimmer) as the bad guy.

No. 3 - “Curb Your Enthusiasm” Season 9 on HBO

He left. He did nothing. He returned. Larry David has stopped doing Bernie Sanders on SNL and is back for Season 9 on HBO.

I’m sure this a boring pick to some but you just can’t get enough Larry David in your life. Returns Sunday, October 1, 2017.

No. 2 – “Stranger Things” Season 2 on Netflix

Stranger Things Netflix

I will probably watch the entire season in about two days, if I am going to be honest. The story continues as supernatural forces once again affect the town of Hawkins. Of course, the kid actors we know and love will be back as well as a new cast of characters. Where's Eleven and what happened to Barb!? FYI, you’ll get two more seasons of this sci-fi thriller. The Duffer Brothers have confirmed a four season run.

Season 2 will be available October 27, 2017.

Also, a big reason why Season 1 was a huge hit was the amazing soundtrack. Give it a listen here.

No. 1 – “MINDHUNTER” on Netflix

Mindhunter Netflix

Might be the most anticipated TV series (for me) in a very a long time. Why? David Fincher. The director that brought you the classic line ‘What’s in the box?’ from “Se7en,” his brilliant work on “The Social Network” as well as many others. He serves as Executive Producer along with Charlize Theron. This script seems to be a perfect match for him to get back into the game and I am excited to see his work.

This Netflix drama, set in 1979 is based on the book Mind Hunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit, will star Jonathan Groff and Holt McCallany as two FBI agents, who interview imprisoned serial killers to try to solve ongoing cases.

It will be available on Netflix October 13, 2017. I can't wait!

The toughest part of picking these shows was being limited to those premiering this fall season of 2017. More and more drama/thrillers (my kind of shows) are coming out in the spring time. But regardless, I’m excited to see what these shows are all about. Comment on our Facebook page what TV shows you are most looking forward to or recent shows you’ve enjoyed binge watching!
